Artist Statement

The figures in this group of paintings are loosely based on actual people, though as always in my figurative work the focus is not on personality, but rather on the implied emotional content of a gesture, the light, the color, and the medium of paint. I am interested in capturing something of the universal human experience, including the spiritual nature of our existence, and therefore a sense of light as a symbol for the spiritual is very important to my work.
